Change of Coverage

Simply put, the Change of Coverage period is the only time of the year when Sheridan students can make changes to their Health and Dental Insurance. Here are the changes you can make:

  • Your Plan gives you the option to enrol your family (spouse and/or dependent children) by completing an enrolment process and by paying an additional fee, over and above your individual fee as a Plan member. Common law and same-sex couples are eligible. All enrolments must be completed during the Change-of-Coverage Period and coverage is only valid for the current policy year.

Students who are eligible to enrol themselves and wish to cover their spouse and/or dependent children have to pay the appropriate couple or family fee in addition to their own enrolment fee.

  • Students with acceptable proof of alternative coverage may opt out of this program during defined opt-out periods. If you are already covered by an extended health and dental plan, you can opt out or change your coverage by providing proof of other equivalent health and dental coverage.

Empower Me

  • Get connected to Empower Me
We’re proud to announce an extension of our Health and Dental Plan through Student Care! A service called Empower Me, a mental health and wellness service that allows students to connect with qualified counsellors, consultants, and life coaches for a variety of issues.

As a Plan member, you are entitled to sessions delivered in person, by telephone, by video-counselling, or by e-counselling.

Your Plan on the GO

The Studentcare mobile app will no longer be available as of September 1st, 2023, but not to worry - there's a new app taking it’s place. Students can link to the web portal via the Studentcare website and download the Securian Canada App from the Apple Store or Google Play Store.

More Things to Know About Health and Dental Coverage

  • This fee enrols full-time and part-time domestic students in Sheridan Student Union’s Health and Dental Plan, providing a wide variety of health and dental coverage, as well as travel insurance to cover unexpected emergency medical expenses.

  • TIP: Keep in mind that if you opted out permanently last year, you won't need to provide proof of other health or dental coverage this year. However, if you did an annual opt out and wish to opt out again you have to complete the process again. Students cannot opt out if they're only covered by OHIP or equivalent primary health care coverage.
